Yes, friends, there’s not one, but TWO festivals this weekend for families. This one, located in Concord, is easily accessible to East Bay families and coincides with Memorial day (that’s right, KidFest extends into Monday!) Enjoy three days of live entertainment and activities especially for kids, like balloon art, face painting, arts, crafts, rides, and more!

  1. Drop-in Art Lab for Families @ the Junior Center for Art and Science & The Eastlake Music Festival, Oakland

Head to Lake Merritt for a Saturday afternoon filled with creativity. Start off the day at the Junior Center for Art and Science for a family friendly art activity. This drop-in art lab occurs weekly with new themed projects every time. This week’s themed activity is creating “family self-portraits with clay!”

After you’ve made your self-portraits, stroll around the lake and stay a while at the annual Eastlake Music Festival. This one day only event is appropriate for all ages and features local indie bands at the Lake Merritt Amphitheater. Don’t forget to pack a lunch, sunscreen, and picnic blanket for a relaxing Oaktown hang out!

4. 45th Annual Muir Beach Volunteer Firemen’s Barbecue, Marin

What could be better than delicious grilled food, live music, and activities for kids? All of that, near gorgeous Muir beach! This special Memorial Day weekend tradition is a festive gathering that helps raise funds for the Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department.

This amazing team of volunteer residents work to preserve the beautiful landscape and keep the community safe, often serving as first responders and are a crucial support to Marin County firefighters. Help support these brave volunteers and have a little fun by the beach this Memorial day weekend.
