Art Pushcart @ The Contemporary Jewish Museum, San Francisco

Come to the Contemporary Jewish Museum for programming for adults & children. When you enter the museum, pick up a free ARTpack activity from the admissions desk! These are self-guided activities created to help families connect with art in fun ways. Then, head over to the Zim Zoom Family Room for even more fun, free with admission! You’ll also be able to catch the Art Pushcart on Sunday from 11 am – 3 pm. The Pushcart is a roving gallery guide with a surprising collection of games, materials, and questions to help visitors of all ages explore the museum, bringing art to life!

Head to Sibley Volcanic Preserve for a peaceful stroll through rolling green hills.

Hiking & Labyrinths @ Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, Oakland

East Bay residents have a volcano in their backyard! Round Top, one of the area’s highest peaks, is made up of lava and volcanic debris from an over 10-million-year-old volcano. Your kids will love learning more about the geographical history of the region. Plus, explore the park’s many man-made labyrinths, fun mazes made of rocks that kids can enjoy. Dog-friendly too!

Support local, small-scale farmers who practice sustainable agriculture by visiting the Ecology Center Farmers’ Market!

The Ecology Center’s Farmers’ Market, Downtown Berkeley

The Ecology Center’s mission is to inspire and build a sustainable, healthy, and just future for the East Bay and beyond by putting the ideals of sustainability into everyday practice. The center envisions a world of “green” cities and supports critical environmental issues through education, demonstration, replication and legislation. The center provides services to the public, including farmers’ markets, produce stands, residential curbside recycling, classes and workshops, Youth Environmental Academy, help desk and hotline, and more. The markets are festive, family-friendly, open-air marketplaces where California farmers bring fresh, foods to sell directly to consumers. The Downtown Farmer’s Market in Berkeley features a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, baked goods, jams and preserves, juices, olive oils, tofu, meat, cheese, prepared foods, nursery plants, and flowers. Often, musicians entertain the shoppers, and special events are scheduled throughout the year. Bring your family down as a feast for the senses in Downtown Berkeley!

Take a docent-led tour of the Marine Mammal Center, and then picnic at Rodeo Beach!

Tour the Marine Mammal Center & Visit Rodeo Beach, Marin

Head over to the Marine Mammal Center for an informative 45 minute Docent-Led Tour, ideal for families. Docents lead participants around the Center’s exhibits and viewing areas, sharing exciting stories about live seal and sea lion patients. This time of year is pupping season! You’ll be able to visit and view adorable baby northern elephant seals and California sea lions and learn more about them.

After your visit, break out a homemade picnic to share at nearby Rodeo Beach, just a half mile away from the center. Sheltered by cliffs and bounded by a lagoon, it offers great picnic sites and is ideal for kite flying or simply watching the beautiful, roaring Pacific.
